INJURY DATE: 1/13/17

I am 11 years old and love to do Gymnastics and love to make people laugh. On Friday January 13th 2017 I was feeling pain in my upper back when I woke up. We thought I slept wrong and I went to school. By the end of the school day I was in a lot more pain. On my way home for the day from school I went to get on the bus and I had lost feeling in my left leg. It went completely numb. As soon as my parents got home from work they took me to the ER in Rock Hill. A few hours later I was airlifted to Levine's Children Hospital. When I arrived everything from the chest down went numb and I no longer had feeling. After test and MRIs and Spinal Tap they confirmed that I had a Spinal Stroke. I am paralyzed at level T5 down. I do not feel pain, hot or cold. I only feel numb. I have started to move my left leg again and I am working on learning to stand and walk again. I love Race to Walk because they really push me and teach me great things. My future goals are to learn to walk again. Some things that I enjoy are baking, DIYs, and crafts.

"I don't even remember what I did with my life before I found Race to Walk. When I was 23, I had a spontaneous brain stem stroke and locked-in syndrome which left me completely paralyzed from head to toe. Soon after, the local rehab hospital ran out [...]"
